Dodge Riverside Golf Club is a municipally-owned facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It’s a fun parkland layout nestled above the Missouri River, across from downtown Omaha, Nebraska. The views of the downtown skyline at sunset can be breathtaking.
Before partnering with Landscapes, the city had previously approved a 3-year, $700,000 irrigation upgrade. The plan addressed upgrades to the irrigation wells, the controller system, valves, and heads to comply with modern industry standards.
When complete, the new system was designed to be more efficient, require fewer ongoing repairs, and deliver consistent playing conditions.
Immediately after partnering with Council Bluffs, Landscapes Golf Management started working on the new plan. The first step was to understand the goals of the new system. Next, the LGM Director of Agronomy evaluated the original design and timeline – with support from the irrigation experts at Landscapes Unlimited.
Immediately, the team identified opportunities to improve the design and timing of the project to save costs. With support from the LGM agronomy team, the maintenance crew could learn new skills and self-perform some of the work.
With a finalized plan, LGM supported Council Bluffs through the RFP process for years 1 and 2.
Once the RFP process identified the contractors, LGM managed all the contractors, timing, and materials through project completion.
In the end, three wells were rebuilt and repaired, stabilizing water availability across the course. The irrigation control system was upgraded to a state-of-the-art platform with the ability to fine-tune distribution from anywhere. Finally, heads were upgraded to new, high-efficiency models.
In the end, the project was completed in 2 years and was nearly $200,000 under budget – without any compromises in features or quality.
